Showers and Tomlinson to Play at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

UTEP Seniors Jameill Showers and Eric Tomlinson accepted an invitation to the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

The duo will be amongst some of the top-talented draft-eligible seniors competing in the all-star game on Saturday, January 17 at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT, and the game will be televised live on ESPN2. ESPNU will also air live broadcasts from practices on January 14-15.

The seniors are the first Miners to play in an All-Star game since 2011 when Kris Adams participated in the Texas vs. The Nation.

Showers’s has been UTEP’s starting quarterback for the past two seasons. This season, the captain has connected on 146-of-262 passes for 1,732 yards and 12 touchdowns.  He went on to rush 83 times for 288 yards and four touchdowns. He led the Miners with 2,020 total offensive yards. The quarterback guided UTEP to a shutout against UTSA, completing 12-of-18 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns passes. He had a stellar showing against Kansas State throwing for a season-high 201 yards, 18 completions and four-touchdown passes.

Tomlinson was named to the John Mackey Midseason Watch List in his final season with the Miners. The tight end started in 10 games thisseason and was used heavily as a blocking tight end. He helped the rushing attack rank third in Conference USA averaging 212.7 yards per game. He hauled in 18 passes for 128 yards and a score this season. The senior caught four passes for 27 yards later in the season versus Rice.
